Youth Peace Parliament Applications have been extended!

 To Whom It May Concern:

On behalf of the International Day of Peace Alliance, I have great pleasure in announcing that applications for the IDPA Youth Peace Parliament are now open!

Applications have now been extended until Wednesday, August 27th, 2008!

The Youth Peace Parliament is an event held annually to commemorate the International Day of Peace, and assists young people in years 8 – 12 to learn about peace and its role in democracy.

Students from all over Queensland will travel to the Queensland Parliament House in Brisbane to discuss a broad range of peace topics.  The Youth Peace Parliament is free to all participants.  Students are required to cover the cost of their transport to and from the event.

The Youth Peace Parliament will run from 29th September to 1st October, with a training day on 6th September.  During the Youth Peace Parliament, students will participate in active debate on motions, question time, and will make speeches relevant to their local community.  As happened last year, state and federal members of parliament are likely to attend the program.

This will be an excellent opportunity for young people who are concerned about peace issues within their community to put their ideas forward and have their voices heard.  Please find attached an application form, which may be copied or emailed as many times as necessary.  Application forms are also available from:  http://www.idpa.org.au/peaceparliament

There is no limit to the number of applications that can be received from one school or organisation.  Students who come from outside Brisbane will be given assistance in finding transport and accommodation (a host family) for the duration of the event.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

James Vercoe

Youth Peace Parliament Co-Ordinator.
